What is Presence and what is it for?

Presence is a video-calling tool that lets people in a group talk to each other without depending on a company's calling service. It runs as a tool inside Moss, so a group can call from the same private space where it already works.

Presence is a video-calling tool for Holochain. Its README opens with the concern that the integrity and privacy of everyday communication should not rest on large technology companies, and says it is time to look at the bigger picture. The project's stated purpose is group conversation that does not depend on someone else's calling service.

The tool is built to run inside Moss, a peer-to-peer group app from the same organisation. Moss lets a group assemble small tools into one shared space, and each tool is its own private peer-to-peer network. Presence is one of the tools a group can add when it needs to talk rather than type.

In practice, a group already working in Moss can add Presence alongside its other tools and hold calls from inside the same space instead of moving to a separate service. The code and the licence live in the project's GitHub repository.
