What is OASIS Holochain hApp and what is it for?

OASIS Holochain hApp is the Holochain app that holds the data behind HoloOASIS, the OASIS provider that lets the wider OASIS platform read and write on Holochain. It exists so that records kept by OASIS-based software live in a Holochain network rather than only in one organisation's own database.

OASIS Holochain hApp is described by its maintainers as the Rust-based Holochain app that forms the data access layer for the HoloOASIS OASIS provider. HoloOASIS is the OASIS provider for Holochain: OASIS provider documentation lists it as the platform's Holochain network provider, and the HoloNET product site says the provider uses HoloNETClient to implement the storage and network providers that bridge Holochain to the other databases, chains and storage services OASIS supports.

In plain terms, it is the part that actually holds the records. Other OASIS components and applications talk to the provider, and the provider's data access layer is this Holochain app, so the entries themselves sit in a Holochain network rather than in a service the project operates. Someone new to the ecosystem can read it as the Holochain-side storage layer for software built on OASIS that chooses to keep its data on Holochain.

The repository documents how to build and run it. Packaging with npm run package produces an oasis.webhapp file in workdir, with an oasis.happ component beside it, and that web hApp is the artefact intended for installation through the Holochain Launcher. The same README also describes entering a nix shell and running npm start to bring up a local two-node network with its user interfaces, which is the quickest way to see it working.
