What is Notifications Module and what is it for?

Notifications Module is a reusable Holochain module that manages text, WhatsApp and email Notifications Module for applications built on Holochain. It exists so that a network can hand messages to a trusted sender instead of every project rebuilding that code itself.

Notifications Module is a notification module for Holochain, the framework for building applications that run on the devices of their participants. It was written as part of Holochain Open Dev, a community collection of reusable zomes, and is packaged as a zome — the back-end unit a Holochain application is assembled from — so other projects can add Notifications Module without writing that code themselves.

Rather than delivering messages on its own, the module gives an application a place to manage the Notifications Module a network wants to send. Its README describes it as a zome for managing text, WhatsApp and email Notifications Module in Holochain apps, designed to be included in other DNA bundles and to assume as little as possible about the DNA it joins.

A network that needs to reach members outside the app can designate a trusted agent to send those messages out over text, WhatsApp or email; Holochain's programming resources describe the module in exactly those terms.
