What is Mycelix Marketplace and what is it for?

Mycelix Marketplace is a peer-to-peer marketplace built on Holochain, where buyers and sellers deal with each other directly instead of through a central operator. It is meant to give people a familiar way to list goods, trade and settle problems among themselves, with seller trust and dispute handling coming from the community rather than a company.

Mycelix Marketplace is published by the Luminous Dynamics team, which lists it alongside a Mycelix-Core protocol and a Mycelix website in the project's own README. Its stated aim is commerce without a central operator: buyers and sellers deal with each other directly, and no company sits between them running the shop.

The intended experience is familiar. Someone browses listings, looks at photos of an item, adds it to a cart, checks out and leaves a review. What differs is where the shop lives: listing and transaction records are meant to sit in Holochain's peer-to-peer data store, photos on IPFS, and a seller's trust would come from a reputation score built out of past trades. If something goes wrong, the design has a buyer file a dispute and community arbitrators vote on the outcome.

The README describes how to look at it from source — clone the project, install the front-end dependencies, run the SvelteKit app locally — and records that wiring up a real Holochain backend was still ahead, so the pages a developer sees work from the app's own data rather than a live network. The repository's status line now reads archived, which makes the code a design record rather than a maintained install.

How to get it

As a library

  1. Clone the repository and change into the frontend directory.
  2. Install the front-end dependencies with npm; the README lists Node.js 18 or newer as a prerequisite.
  3. Copy the example environment file to .env.local and fill in the values the README names.
  4. Start the development server and open the local address it prints, port 5173 by default.

Questions people ask

Is there a hosted version of Mycelix Marketplace?
The repository lists a hosted front-end address, but that address did not respond to a live fetch, and the repository itself is recorded as archived. source
Does Mycelix Marketplace run as a Holochain app today?
The README stages the work: it records the SvelteKit front end as built and the Holochain zomes as still to come, so the published front end is an interface preview rather than an app backed by a live network. source
