What is Kosmic Lab and what is it for?
Kosmic Lab is the research workspace for the Kosmic Simulation & Coherence Framework, a project that models coherence and consciousness-related quantities in simulations and machine-learning experiments. It exists to keep that work reproducible and to let research groups share results and provenance without pooling their raw data.
Kosmic Lab is the research workspace for the Kosmic Simulation & Coherence Framework. It collects tooling for modelling coherence — the framework's K-index — and consciousness-related quantities in simulations and machine-learning experiments, keeping the project's experiment code, analysis scripts and documentation together in one repository.
In practice the workspace behaves like a shared laboratory notebook with automation attached. Each run is recorded as a K-Codex, an experimental record that ties a result to the code version and configuration that produced it, so another researcher can retrace the same experiment. Analysis notebooks and a local dashboard are generated from those records rather than written by hand.
The repository documents several research tracks, including a controller trained with K-index feedback for corridor navigation and an experiment on bioelectric rescue. A Mycelix integration is described for storing experimental provenance on a Holochain DHT and for federated learning across groups without sharing raw data. The README is the place to learn more. The repository's GitHub listing shows it as archived, with its last push in March 2026, so its instructions are a historical record rather than a current setup guide.
How to get it
From the command line
- Clone the repository from GitHub.
- Open the development environment with `nix develop`, or skip Nix and use Poetry directly.
- Install dependencies with `poetry install --sync`.
- Run `make test` to verify the toolchain, then `make demo` to generate an example experimental record and analysis, and `make dashboard` to serve the dashboard locally.

Questions people ask
- What is a K-Codex?
- It is the workspace's record of an experiment, renamed from the earlier 'K-Passport' name, linking a result to the code version and configuration that produced it. The project describes it as the basis for reproducing past work. source
- Where does Holochain fit into Kosmic Lab?
- The README describes a Mycelix integration that stores experiment provenance on a Holochain DHT and supports federated learning between labs. Holochain is one component of the workspace rather than the whole project. source
- What do you need to run it?
- The documented path is a checkout of the repository with either Nix and Poetry or Poetry alone, after which the workspace's make targets run the test suite, a demo and a local dashboard. Python is the primary language. source
