What is authority-real-time-sessions and what is it for?
authority-real-time-sessions is a software library for building Holochain apps in which several people work on the same shared data at the same time. It supplies the pieces a developer adds to their own app rather than a finished product: a Holochain zome written in Rust and a set of TypeScript stores a web interface can use to take part in a live session.
authority-real-time-sessions is a library, not an application. Its front-end half is published as an npm package named @holochain-syn/real-time-sessions, an ES module built to a dist folder and configured for public release. The repository holds two halves: a Holochain coordinator zome written in Rust under zomes/coordinator/src, and TypeScript stores under ui/src covering an authority session, a participant session and a sessions store.
A real-time session is a stretch of time in which more than one person is editing the same thing. In an app that keeps its data across peers rather than in one company's server, holding everyone's copy in step is the difficult part, and this library provides the session pieces so a developer does not rebuild that layer for every app. A developer adds it to their own project and writes the interface themselves.
A developer building a Holochain app where two people edit the same list or document could base the shared state on this library instead of writing their own session code. The repository is the documentation; there is no root README, and the only readme sits inside the ui folder. Its GitHub page records a single contributor and creation in August 2022, and the project's census record shows no release and stalled activity, so these sources describe a historical project and do not establish present usability or current compatibility.
Questions people ask
- Is authority-real-time-sessions an app I can install and run?
- No. It is a library: an npm-published TypeScript package plus a Holochain zome, meant to be added to a developer's own Holochain app. The repository contains no app or web-app manifest, so there is nothing here to install and launch. source
- Is the project still active?
- Its GitHub page, read in September 2026, shows one contributor and creation in August 2022 with no stars or forks, and the project's census record shows stalled activity with no release. The evidence dates from 2022 and does not establish present usability or compatibility. source
- Where is the documentation?
- There is no documentation at the repository root; the only readme in the repository sits at ui/README.md alongside the TypeScript stores it describes. A reader has to work from the source files themselves. source
