What is very-simple-happ and what is it for?

very-simple-happ is a small Holochain app written to exercise quantized gossip, the method Holochain's peer-to-peer layer uses to compare data across a network and move only what differs. It exists as a test bed rather than a finished product: it writes batches of numbers into shared data and reads them back, so that the app itself does almost nothing while the gossip machinery is what gets exercised.

very-simple-happ is a one-person side project from the early period of Holochain app building. Its author, maackle, is the Holochain contributor who wrote the network crate that first implemented quantized gossip in the main Holochain codebase, and the repository's own one-line description says plainly what the app is: a very simple Holochain app for testing quantized gossip.

The idea is deliberately small. Where an ordinary Holochain app holds real content and rules about who may change it, this one holds a single kind of thing — a number — and two actions: write a batch of numbers, and read back the numbers it can see. That is the whole app, which is the point. An app this thin produces shared data and little else, so it works as a test bed for how that data travels between peers.

Concretely, the repository's Node script installs the bundled app into a conductor on the same machine, writes a set of random numbers, then lists them back and prints how many it found, which is the number that shows whether everything written could be read again. What happens on the wire belongs to the gossip implementation rather than to this app. It is a historical reference rather than a tool in current use, and the live panel records its activity and compatibility.
