What is Mycelix-Mail and what is it for?
Mycelix-Mail is a decentralized email system built on Holochain, where identity and message data stay with the people who use it instead of sitting on a mail provider's servers, and each sender carries a reputation that shapes what reaches an inbox. It belongs to the Mycelix Protocol ecosystem and uses that ecosystem's MATL trust layer to filter spam by reputation rather than by keywords.
Mycelix-Mail is a decentralized email system built on Holochain, developed as part of the Mycelix Protocol ecosystem. Instead of routing mail through a provider's servers, it keeps identity and message data with the people who use it, and it draws on MATL, a trust layer shared with other Mycelix projects, to score senders by reputation.
Its Holochain DNA carries one integrity zome alongside mail and trust-filter zomes, and it is paired with a Rust backend and a React frontend. Spam is handled by MATL reputation scoring rather than keyword blacklists, message contents are encrypted end to end with X25519 key exchange and ChaCha20-Poly1305, and the README also describes IPFS storage for message bodies.
In use, a person sends a message addressed to another participant's decentralized identifier (DID) rather than an email address, and the sender's trust score shapes how the message is treated on arrival. The repository's README documents running that whole stack locally with Nix or Docker. hAppRadar's census, checked in September 2026, records the project's liveness as archived, so those instructions describe a project that is no longer being maintained.
