What is Whos in and what is it for?

Who's In? is a Holochain app that lets someone propose an event or a shared task and lets other people commit to it only once every role the action needs has been filled. It exists so a group can turn an idea into real joint action without coercion and without first having to prove the plan is viable.

The tool comes from the Distributed Collective Action Network, or DCAN, an approach to group organizing outlined by the team at Lightningrod Labs. DCAN is described as a way to coordinate people without centralized decision-making or coercion, and without relying on voting or laws: instead of decreeing a decision and then enforcing it, it builds agreement among the people who would actually take part. Who's In? is one of the tools built for Moss that puts that idea to work.

In practice, Who's In? is for proposing an event or a shared task and letting other people sign on under one condition: that every role the action needs gets filled. Anyone can make the proposal, and it goes ahead when the people required to carry it out have committed. That keeps a group's plans grounded in who has actually said yes, rather than in a decision everyone is then expected to follow.

A simple case is a group that wants to run an event or take on a piece of shared work: someone proposes it and names the roles, and others join on the understanding that it happens if those roles fill. The way its own site gives for running it is inside Moss — download Moss, create a group, and install "Who's in?" from the group's app store. More background on the approach is at dcan.app.
