What is ProofPoll and what is it for?
ProofPoll is a free, open-source desktop app for running polls and votes whose results the people taking part can check. It stores polls and votes on a peer-to-peer Holochain network rather than in a single organisation's database, and ties each vote to one linked identity so duplicate votes are dropped.
ProofPoll is a free, open-source desktop application for running polls and votes. It installs like an ordinary app on Linux, macOS and Windows, and starts its own local Holochain conductor, so a poll and its votes are held and validated across the machines of the people taking part rather than in one database. Its stated purpose is to make poll results verifiable and hard to alter quietly.
Voting works through identity rather than accounts. Before voting, a participant links a Flowsta identity, which lives in a Flowsta Vault on their own machine; the app then counts every vote from that identity as one vote, including votes cast from their other devices, and drops duplicates. No email address is collected, and no administrator can change a result or remove a poll, though polls can be flagged by the community as spam or misleading.
A group that wants a vote its members can check for themselves — a community deciding on a proposal, for example — can publish a poll and have each participant's app hold a copy of the poll and the votes cast on it. Private material, such as a rationale attached to a vote, is encrypted on the voter's machine before it is shared. The repository's README documents how the pieces fit together, and the Flowsta documentation at docs.flowsta.com covers the identity linking the app relies on.
How to get it
Desktop app
- Download the installer for your platform from the project's releases page: Linux (.deb or .rpm), macOS (.dmg, Intel or Apple Silicon) or Windows (.exe or .msi).
- Install it as you would any desktop application, then launch ProofPoll; the app starts and manages its own local Holochain conductor.
- Optionally check the download against the release's published SHA256SUMS file before installing.

Questions people ask
- Do I need an account or an email address to take part in a poll?
- No. You link a Flowsta identity instead, held in a Flowsta Vault on your own machine, and the app resolves your votes to that one identity across your devices. No email address is collected. source
- Can the people who maintain ProofPoll change a result or delete a poll?
- Polls and votes are replicated and validated across everyone running the app, and the project states there is no admin who can change a result or take one down. Polls can instead be community-flagged as spam or misleading. source
- Can ProofPoll be used as the starting point for another Holochain desktop app?
- Yes. The repository presents it as a fork-ready template for desktop Holochain apps and includes a forking guide describing what to rename and which integration pieces to keep. source
