What is ifeasy and what is it for?
ifeasy is a Holochain application for small communities that helps members match the things they need with the things others can offer. Its purpose is need-and-wants matching: giving a group one place to see who is looking for what and who can provide it.
ifeasy is a small Holochain application from Lightningrod Labs, the organisation behind Moss and Acorn. Its own repository describes it as "easy need/wants matching coordination for small communities". It does not appear among the projects Lightningrod Labs currently presents on its website, so it reads as an early, self-contained experiment rather than part of that studio's live line-up.
The idea is a simple one. In any small group, someone is looking for something and someone else could provide it, but the two rarely find each other. ifeasy is aimed at that matching step: a shared place where a community puts its needs — the things members want — alongside its offers, so that a match can be noticed instead of missed.
The repository documents how a developer runs it rather than an end-user download: entering the project's development shell, starting a single conductor and its interface, or bootstrapping a multi-node network to see several agents and their interfaces talking to each other. The repository at github.com/lightningrodlabs/ifeasy is the place to start.
How to get it
From the command line
- This is the repository's own developer workflow. It records no published release for end users and its last recorded activity is October 2022 (per the project census), so read these steps as a historical build path rather than a current, supported installation.
- Install the Holochain development environment; the repository says only nix-shell is required.
- Clone the repository and, in its root folder, enter the nix shell and install dependencies (nix-shell, then npm install). The repository warns that all other commands must be run from inside that shell.
- Run a single agent and its interface with npm start. Repeat the command in another terminal to add another agent; each new agent is assigned its own port and connects to the others.
- To try several agents together, bootstrap a network of nodes with npm run network 3, substituting the number of nodes for 3. The repository notes this also brings up the Holochain Playground for introspection.
