What is Epistemic Resonance and what is it for?

Epistemic Resonance records claims, the critiques made of them and the evidence attached to them as a connected graph rather than as flat posts, so an argument keeps its context and its history. This project packages that protocol as a standalone desktop application carrying its own Holochain conductor, so it can be installed and run without Rust, Node or a terminal.

The app exists because the earlier way of running Holochain applications stopped fitting this one. That model was a single Holochain Launcher that installed many applications from a bundle; the app manifest format later changed, and current Launcher releases reject a bundle built for a newer Holochain with a manifest parse error rather than a version mismatch. This project takes the other route — one packaged desktop app per application, each one carrying its own conductor.

In use, the app is a place to put statements in public and to answer them. You publish a claim together with the confidence you hold in it, critique someone else's claim by choosing the kind of critique you are making, attach evidence, and retract something you no longer stand behind — retracting adds a record rather than deleting one. You can found a domain and join one. There are no scores, rankings or reputation numbers for any agent, claim or critique, and critiques are capped per hour so that disagreement costs something.

A whole session fits in that loop: a claim is posted, someone answers it with a methodological critique, supporting evidence is attached to both, and a later retraction sits alongside the original instead of erasing it. Running it needs no Rust, Node or terminal. The packaged application is described in the repository's own README, and the protocol it ships is documented in the sibling repository's operating manual.

How to get it

Desktop app

  1. Download the installer for your system from the project's releases page: a Windows setup executable, a macOS disk image for Intel or Apple Silicon, or a Linux AppImage or deb package.
  2. The builds are not code signed. On macOS the app is quarantined on first open and needs the Terminal quarantine override given in the release notes; on Windows, SmartScreen warns and needs 'More info' then 'Run anyway'.
  3. No Rust, Node or terminal is required — the app carries its own Holochain conductor.

Questions people ask

How do I install it?
Download the build for your system from the releases page — Windows setup executable, macOS disk image (Intel or Apple Silicon) or Linux AppImage/deb. The builds are unsigned, so macOS needs a Terminal quarantine override on first launch and Windows shows a SmartScreen warning. source
Do I need Rust, Node or a terminal to run it?
No. The desktop app carries its own Holochain conductor, and running it does not require Rust, Node or a terminal. source
Can I install it into the Holochain Launcher instead?
No. The Launcher installs many applications from a single bundle, and the bundle format changed, so a bundle built for a newer Holochain fails inside released Launcher builds with a manifest parse error. This project distributes one packaged app per application instead. source
