What is Converge and what is it for?

Converge is a Holochain app that helps a group decide something by agreeing on the criteria a good answer has to meet, then judging and refining proposals against those shared criteria. It is maintained by lightningrodlabs and is presented as one of the tools of the Distributed Collective Action Network.

Converge is a Holochain app for groups that have to make a decision together. Its repository was created in August 2023 under lightningrodlabs, the organization that maintains it, and its own website presents it as one of the tools of DCAN, the Distributed Collective Action Network — an approach to collective action that, as the site describes it, does not rely on centralized decision-making.

Rather than fight over whole proposals, Converge asks a group to agree first on the criteria a good answer would have to satisfy, then to measure and refine proposals against those shared criteria. The README describes the method as based loosely on Convergent Facilitation, the process set out in the book The Highest Common Denominator.

The documented route to using it is inside a Moss group: download Moss, create a group, invite collaborators, then find Converge in the group's app store and install it, as the DCAN website sets out. Developers can instead package the repository into converge.webhapp for the Holochain Launcher. The DCAN site and the repository README are where to read further.
