What is circulo-tx5 and what is it for?

Circulo is a peer-to-peer payments app that lets a group of people send and receive units of their own local currency directly between each other, rather than through a central service that holds everyone's balances. It is built on Holochain and the Unyt accounting engine and exists as a deliberately simple, playful way for people to try peer-to-peer payments and report back on how the tools underneath behave.

Circulo is a peer-to-peer payments app for a group of people who want to use their own currency. It is built on the Unyt accounting engine, which runs on Holochain, and its team describes it as the simplest peer-to-peer currency example they could build on that software. It began as Unyt's first release in a series of biweekly product launches, presented as a way for people to get hands-on experience of peer-to-peer credit and payments rather than as a finished product.

Everyone starts with a balance of zero and a small credit limit, which sets how far below zero they can spend. Each time you send someone units, your limit rises a little, so the app rewards sending; the project describes the rule as simple and easily gameable on purpose, so that trying the app stays easy. When you send units the sender's account is debited straight away, but the units only reach the receiver's balance when that person chooses to accept them.

A concrete use is a small group running their own currency on their own machines: you share your address so another person can send you units of the group's currency, called CIRC, and the units wait for you to collect them if you have not accepted yet. The README notes that unaccepted units stay available for that one person and no one else can claim them. The repository's README carries the downloads, per-platform installation steps and system requirements.

Questions people ask

What happens if the person I sent units to never accepts them?
The units stay available for that person to collect, and no one else is able to claim them. source
Which languages can the interface be shown in?
English, German, Turkish, Spanish and French, selected from the language option in settings. source
Why does sending units raise my credit limit?
The credit rule is deliberately simple and easily gameable so that many people can download, install and immediately start sending payments, then feed back on the rest of the app. source
