What is ad4m-link-template-language-dna and what is it for?
It is a template repository for building an AD4M link language, the kind of module that defines how a set of shared links is stored and synchronised between agents. It exists so that someone writing a new link language for Coasys's AD4M framework can start from a working skeleton, including the version of the template that carries a Holochain DNA, instead of assembling the module from nothing.
Coasys publishes a small family of AD4M language templates, and this is one of them: the link-language variant that includes a DNA. A template repository is a skeleton rather than a finished program — the code is meant to be cloned and edited. Its README calls it an expression language template and asks that any language added to it be Deno-compatible, and its Usage section is still a note asking for instructions to be written.
In AD4M, a language is the part of the system that says how agents store, retrieve and address data, and every stored item is reachable through a language-specific address. Link languages are the layer that synchronises a shared set of links between several agents, which is what an AD4M Neighbourhood is built on: the shared graph can then be read through different apps at the same time. Coasys's documentation describes link-language templates both with and without a DNA, and its own default Holochain-backed template, Perspective Diff Sync, is the pattern the family follows — it keeps a CRDT-style revision history and gives each instance its own isolated network.
The people this repository is aimed at are developers writing a new link language for a Neighbourhood with its own sync behaviour: they clone the template, adapt it, and an AD4M executor loads the result as a language module. For the intended shape of such a language, Coasys's framework documentation at docs.ad4m.dev is the place to read further.
How to get it
As a library
- Install Deno.
- Install Node.js — the template uses Node.js modules, which need a compatibility layer to run under Deno.
- Clone the repository and, inside its directory, run deno install to fetch dependencies.

Questions people ask
- What is this a template for?
- It is the link-language template in Coasys's AD4M language template set, and one of the variants that includes a DNA. AD4M's documentation lists link-language templates both with and without a DNA, intended to be cloned and modified to create your own language. source
- Has anything ever been released from this repository?
- No. The repository's releases listing is empty — no release has been published from it. source
- How do I set it up?
- The repository's README documents installing Deno and Node.js, cloning the repository and running deno install; its Usage and License sections are still placeholder text, so the repository itself does not document a finished workflow beyond that. source
