What is signing-service and what is it for?

signing-service is a Holochain project that packages two functions into a DNA: one that signs a piece of data, and one that checks whether a signature is valid. It exists so that other Holochain applications can ask for a signature and verify one without building that capability themselves.

signing-service is a small Holochain project: a DNA whose zome exposes two kinds of function, one that signs data and one that verifies a signature. Its repository sits in the coasys organisation and carries no documentation beyond a single line describing it, so this page states only what the code and the repository listing show.

A Holochain DNA is not an app you open. It is a package of code that another Holochain application registers and calls. That is why this repository holds zomes, tests and build files but no app manifest and no interface: its purpose is narrow, giving an application a place to ask for a signature over some piece of data and to check later whether that signature is valid.

As an illustration, an application that records a document or a statement could call the signing function to attach a signature made with the agent's key, and the verify function to confirm that signature when the record is read back. The project's recorded activity has stopped, so it is presented here as historical; the versions it builds against and its last recorded activity appear in the data panel on this page.
