What is Nondominium and what is it for?

Nondominium is a Holochain application for sharing and managing resources that belong to no single organisation. It keeps a record of who used what under rules written into the app itself, so people and groups can pool and pass on resources without handing control to a central platform.

Nondominium describes itself as foundational infrastructure for a class of resources that belong to no single organisation — shared assets that are neither private property nor a public commons. Its stated goal is a peer sharing economy, in which people and groups share resources without a platform in the middle deciding who may take part. The project is developed in the open in the Sensorica organisation, with its documentation kept alongside the code.

In use, the application keeps a record of resources and of what happens to them. A resource is described, its state is tracked, and each change — someone using, moving, storing or repairing it — passes through rules written into the application rather than a company's terms of service. Participants build up a reputation through participation receipts, and access is granted through roles and capabilities, so a group can share things accountably without appointing an administrator.

Today the reachable state is a development one: the project documents starting a local, multi-agent network with web user interfaces from source, rather than installing a finished app. Its documentation lists Artcoin, an open-source art economy, as a use case worked through as an integration with Nondominium, alongside other application write-ups such as distributed journalism and a health network.
