What is Moss and what is it for?

Moss is a desktop app that gives a small group one shared space of its own, built up from the tools the group chooses. It is the example implementation of The Weave, a Holochain-based effort to let separately built tools share what a group makes in them.

Moss is a desktop app that gives a small group one shared space of its own. It comes from Lightningrod Labs, and the repository notes it was previously called We. Each group, and each tool it uses, runs as its own private peer-to-peer network across the members' computers.

A group starts with an empty space and adds the tools it needs. The project's website lists ones available from the Holochain community: chat that reaches people across all your groups, video calls, collaborative editing, a project-planning tool called Acorn, and Unyt, which tracks value. Each tool supplies one capability, and the site calls the result building your own space out of the tools your group really needs.

Moss is the example implementation of The Weave, an effort to let separately built tools share what a group makes in them. The project's documentation illustrates this by attaching a conversation from the chat tool to a document. The desktop app is available for macOS, Windows and Linux from the project's website; developers building their own tools start at dev.theweave.social.
