What is Hosting app and what is it for?

Hosting app is an app for Holochain where the people who publish applications and the people who run them find each other and settle the terms of hosting. It was written in the Holo-Host organisation to give Hosts and App Providers one shared place to list apps, take on hosting work, and keep records of the service they provided.

Hosting app is an early Holochain app from the Holo-Host organisation, described there as the Holo hosting app used by Hosts and App Providers. The repository holds a Holochain DNA rather than a finished product, and the organisation has since archived it, so the catalog lists it as a historical project.

The idea is a meeting place for two roles. App Providers are the people who publish an app and set out how they want it hosted. Hosts are the people who offer to run that app on machines they look after. In the hosting app, providers listed apps and hosting preferences, hosts declared an intention to host, and hosts kept private records of the service they provided, giving both sides one place to see what had been agreed.

One documented example: listing an app together with its hosting preferences makes the app available for hosting and registers a domain name for it, after which a Host can take it on.
